How to shop for a TV

Finding the best TV for your needs can be difficult. Prices vary a lot depending on the features and size you want. On the low-end, you can find some small HDTVs for around $100. On the other hand, flagship 4K models with larger screen sizes can cost $1,500 or more.

If you prioritize high-end picture quality for the best movie-watching experience, you’ll want to opt for a 4K display with at least a 65-inch screen. The best 4K TVs use an OLED panel, or an advanced LED screen (often branded as QLED) with local dimming and quantum dots. These technologies enable the highest contrast and deepest black levels for a gorgeous high dynamic range (HDR) image.

For people who just want a simple smart TV that’s suited for casual viewing, a smaller display with a budget-friendly LED panel will be more than fine. Though picture quality won’t be as impressive as pricier models, there are plenty of cheap LED TVs with solid performance, including budget picks that still manage to offer 4K, HDR, and plenty of apps.
