Gaming computer
It’s easy to share your whole screen or a specific app on Discord.

  • You can use Discord’s screen share feature to stream a single app or your entire screen to friends.
  • To screen share in a public Discord server, you might need permission from a server moderator.
  • Screen share is available in Discord’s desktop, web, and mobile apps.

Playing video games, drawing, even watching YouTube – these don’t have to be lonely experiences. Sharing your screen on Discord allows you to show all of your friends what’s happening on your screen, and chat with them at the same time.

Here’s how to use Discord’s screen sharing mode in all versions of the app.

How to screen share in Discord on a computer

1. Open Discord on your Mac or PC – it can be the web client or the downloaded app – and head to the server you want to stream in.

2. Go into a voice channel and click on the Screen option in the bottom-left. If this option is grayed out, it means you don’t have permission to stream in the channel, and will have to ask a server moderator to change your role.

Join the voice channel and click the “Screen” option.

3. Choose what you want to share. You can share your entire screen at once, meaning that people will see your screen exactly as you do, or you can share a specific app. Sharing just an app will let people see just that program, even if you’re not focused on it.

4. Choose your streaming quality and framerate. If you have Discord Nitro, you can stream at 1080p or higher at 60FPS – otherwise, you’ll be limited to 720p at 30FPS. You can also use the drop-down menu to pick a preset option like Smoother Video.

5. Click Go Live. You’ll start streaming your screen to the voice channel. To see your stream, double-click the red LIVE icon next to your name. Only up to 50 people (yourself included) can watch your stream at any given time.

6. To end the stream, disconnect from the voice channel or click the Screen option in the bottom-left again.

You can also share your screen in a private call. Head to your direct messages and start a call there, and then click the icon that looks like a computer screen with an arrow in it. Just like above, you’ll be asked what you want to share and the quality.

Both iPhone and Android users can stream their phone screens over Discord. However, you can’t share your screen while using certain apps, like Netflix.

1. Open Discord on your iPhone or Android and go to the server and voice channel you want to stream in.

2. Once in the voice channel, tap the icon that looks like a phone at the bottom of the screen. If the icon is grayed out, you don’t have permission to stream in the channel, and will have to ask a server moderator to change your role.

You can also tap the video camera icon to start streaming from your phone’s camera.

3. You’ll be asked to give Discord permission to record your screen. Press Start now or Start Broadcast to do so.

4. You can now swipe out of Discord and open a different app. Everything you do – and all sounds that play from your apps – will be shared over Discord.

5. To end the stream, just head back to Discord and tap Stop sharing.

Chipotle attracted nearly 24,000 applicants through an online job fair a week after the chain announced it was boosting its minimum wage

Chipotle
  • Chipotle got nearly 24,000 applicants in a one week period through Discord.
  • Chipotle announced it would raise average wages to $15 per hour.
  • The restaurant industry is struggling to hire workers.
  • See more stories on Insider’s business page.

Chipotle says it received more than 23,000 job applications through online chat platform Discord. The thousands of applicants came just after the fast casual chain announced it would raise the average hourly wage to $15 and hire 20,000 new workers.

As retailers struggle to hire workers, Chipotle became the first brand to launch a career fair on Discord, the company said. Discord is a group chatting platform originally built for gamers, but the service is now used by all kinds of online communities. The Discord server hosted recruitment content and sessions with Chipotle employees on benefits and career paths.

Over a one-week period, Chipotle told Insider that it received 23,873 total applications following the career fair, an increase of 77% over the previous week and 298% over the first week of April.

Earlier in May, Chipotle announced plans to raise hourly wages for workers, bringing the average up $2 from $13 to $15. Wages will range from $11 to $18 an hour, going into effect by June.

Chipotle is hiring for thousands of jobs, including 20,000 open roles, plus workers to staff the 200 new locations planned to open this year. Hiring has been difficult for many companies that have reported a lack of candidates for open positions. But retail and restaurants are are also struggling to retain workers who want to leave for new opportunities. That’s making the sector’s labor crunch even worse.

Subway, McDonald’s, and Taco Bell, along with others, are advertising thousands of open positions online in hopes of staffing up and returning to pre-pandemic hours with open dining rooms. Some hiring managers are advertising perks like $50 for an interview, signing bonuses, and referral programs.

It seems perks aren’t enough to restaff restaurants as thousands of people leave the industry for good. In that case, raising wages as Chipotle did may be the only way to attract workers.

Sony is launching a partnership with Discord to bring the video-game chat service to PlayStation next year, the company announced on Monday.

“Our goal is to bring the Discord and PlayStation experiences closer together on console and mobile starting early next year, allowing friends, groups, and communities to hang out, have fun, and communicate more easily while playing games together,” Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO and President Jim Ryan said in a press release.

As part of the partnership, Sony is also investing an undisclosed amount of money into Discord.

“From our very first conversation with co-founders Jason Citron and Stan Vishnevskiy, I was inspired by their lifelong love for gaming and our teams’ shared passion to help bring friends and communities together in new ways,” Ryan said. “Empowering players to create communities and enjoy shared gaming experiences is at the heart of what we do, so we are beyond excited to start this journey with one of the world’s most popular communication services.”

Details on what the partnership exactly entails remain unclear, as it’s unknown if a Discord app will be coming to PlayStation consoles or if the partnership will work in another way.

Microsoft had previously been in talks to acquire Discord, but the discussions broke down last month after Discord rejected the company’s $12 billion bid, Bloomberg reported.

How to contact Discord and submit a help or support request as a user or developer

Contact Discord
There are several ways you can contact Discord support.

  • You can contact Discord support directly using their online forms for users and developers, via Twitter, or by reaching them via email at support@discordapp.com.
  • Developers can contact Discord with a specific issue using the Game Dev “Submit a request” feature.
  • If you want a quicker resolution, you can try to use Discord’s FAQ help center or community forums to get general support or help from fellow Discord users.
  • Visit Insider’s Tech Reference library for more stories.

Discord – the popular group-chatting platform initially designed for gamers – offers users a way to communicate, play games, stream, listen to music, and more.

With so many users and so many ways to use it, you’re likely to encounter problems on the platform. Regardless of the issue – whether it’s audio and video functionality, your Nitro subscription, or integrating Discord with a game console – contacting the support team is easy.

You can contact Discord for help and support issues through email at support@discordapp.com, via Twitter, or through various means within their help department.

How to contact Discord developer support

Like Discord users, developers are allowed to send support requests. Their request form is a little broader, and the help center isn’t as large, but you can still get answers and related assistance.

Developers can use their own request form to receive help from Discord.

First, go to the game developers’ submission request form. Then provide a description of the problem, how the bug is affecting your program’s function, what the program is intended to do without the bug, and what the outcome is of the program with the bug.

You must also include the operating system you’re using and the platform that it’s used on.

How to use Discord on Xbox to show your friends what games you’re playing

Linking your Discord account to your Xbox can help you connect with friends.

  • You can use Discord on Xbox by linking your Discord account to your Xbox Live account.
  • Once your accounts are linked, Discord will show your friends what game you’re currently playing on your Xbox.
  • Linking your accounts makes it easy for your Discord friends to join your Xbox game.
  • Visit Insider’s Tech Reference library for more stories.

Discord, a popular messaging platform, is easy to link with your Xbox Live account. You can do this on your Xbox One or Xbox Series X/S through the Discord app for Mac and PC, or the mobile app for iPhone and Android devices.

Here’s a breakdown of what you can do with Discord on Xbox and how to link your accounts.

Discord on Xbox

The major feature of Discord on Xbox is that when you begin playing a game on your Xbox, it’ll be shown on your Discord profile. This means that anyone you share a server with will be able to see what you’re playing, which is great if you have friends who might want to join in.

But other than being able to see who else is online, the capabilities of Discord on Xbox are limited. If you use Discord on your PC when gaming, for example, you can talk with friends over voice chat and messaging, but those features aren’t yet available on Xbox.

Here’s how to use Discord on Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.

Microsoft is in talks to buy chat app Discord for more than $10 billion, according to a report

Microsoft's CEO Satya Nadella

  • Microsoft is in talks to buy Discord for more than $10 billion, Bloomberg reported Tuesday.
  • The chat app boomed during the pandemic and now has more than 140 million monthly users.
  • Discord launched in 2015 for gamers to talk while they played, but has grown to a broader user base.
  • See more stories on Insider’s business page.

Microsoft is considering buying Discord, the voice-chat and messaging app that has boomed in popularity during the pandemic, for more than $10 billion, Bloomberg reported Tuesday.

Discord has held talks with Microsoft and other potential buyers, but no deal is imminent, people familiar with the matter told the publication.

“I know they are in active discussions with a select few parties,” one source told GamesBeat. “The market is in a state where they could command strong double-digit billions of dollars.”

One of the people told Bloomberg said that Discord was more likely to go public than to sell itself.

The reports of a possible acquisition come within a month of former Pinterest exec Tomasz Marcinkowski joining Discord as its first-ever chief financial officer.

Discord raised $100 million in a funding round in June, and The New York Times reported that investors valued the app at $7 billion in December.

Microsoft and Discord declined Bloomberg’s request for comment.

Both companies did not immediately respond to Insider’s request for comment.

Discord, which offers audio, video, and text chat on Mac, PC, iPhone, and Android devices, launched in 2015 for gamers to talk while they play, but has since grown to a broader user base.

It has boomed during the pandemic, as more people have worked, played games, and socialized online, and it says it now has more than 140 million active monthly users.

The app is free, but users can upgrade to Discord Nitro, which gets you higher video quality, server boosting, a higher upload limit, enhanced quality live-streaming, and a custom Discord tag, for $9.99 a month or $99.99 a year.

The app said its 2020 revenue topped $100 million.

Microsoft investing big in gaming

Acquiring Discord would be another major gaming-focused investment for Microsoft.

In September, Microsoft said it was buying Bethesda Softworks’ parent company, ZeniMax Media, in a deal worth $7.5 billion.

The deal brought all of Bethesda’s game studios – which make blockbuster franchises such as “Doom,” “The Elder Scrolls,” and “Fallout” – under the Xbox Studios umbrella.

Microsoft has been trying to buy other social-media sites to add to its $26.2 billion acquisition of LinkedIn in 2016. It said last summer that it was in talks with ByteDance to buy TikTok’s US operations, and it also reportedly tried to buy Pinterest, the photo-sharing app worth $51 billion, which would have been Microsoft’s biggest deal yet.

How to turn on dark mode in Discord and give the app a sleek new look

Discord app logo android phone
Discord’s dark mode is easy to activate.

  • You can turn on dark mode on Discord by going to the app’s “Appearance” menu.
  • Discord’s dark mode gives the app a completely new aesthetic, and can save battery life.
  • The Discord Android app also offers an experimental AMOLED mode, which makes dark mode even darker.
  • Visit Insider’s Tech Reference library for more stories.

If you’re a Discord user, you’re probably spending a decent amount of time looking at screens. And if that’s the case, the constant bright light of your computer or phone screen might start bothering you.

Luckily, Discord is one of many apps that offer a dark mode option. When you turn it on, instead of seeing dark text on a white background, you’ll see white text on a dark background.

While there isn’t any evidence that dark mode can relieve eye strain, running dark mode can look cooler aesthetically, and it can also help your device save battery, depending on what type of screen you have.

Switching to dark mode on Discord is easy, and so is switching back. You can activate dark mode in both the desktop and mobile versions of Discord.

  • The Reply feature is available in both the desktop and mobile versions of Discord.
  • Visit Business Insider’s Tech Reference library for more stories.

Discord messaging has improved with the addition of a Reply function.

The feature lets you reply to other Discord users’ comments directly, instead of having to send your reply like any other message. Your reply will even include a link back to the comment you’re responding to, making it easy for anyone to follow the conversation.

You’ll also have the option to tag and notify the person you’re replying to, which is great if you’re responding to a message sent some time ago.

Here’s how to reply to messages on Discord, using the desktop or mobile versions of the app.

How to reply on Discord for desktop

This method works for both the internet browser version of Discord and the desktop app version.

1. With Discord open, locate the comment you want to reply to.

2. Hover your cursor over the comment so a bar of icons appears to the right of the message. In this bar, click the arrow icon – or if the arrow isn’t there, like if you’re replying to your own comment, click the ellipsis icon, and then the “Reply” option.

2. Tap and hold on the comment. A menu will appear with more options available.

3. In the menu that appears, tap “Reply.”
