AirPods with Charging Case (medium, Preferred: Amazon)

The standard AirPods with Charging Case are the cheapest AirPods you can buy. The included charging case charges via a Lightning cable, the same cable you use to charge your iPhone.

The AirPods have a five-hour battery life, and the case stores 24 hours of battery charge. A quick 15-minute charge in the case gives them an extra three hours of listening time. They are not sweat- or water-resistant – you’ll have to check out the AirPods Pro below if that’s important to you. You can read our full AirPods review here.

Contrary to what MSRP would like you to think, AirPods typically only sell for $120 across online retailers – a good $40 less than listed. During Black Friday and Cyber Monday we saw them fall as low as $99, but that kind of promotion is rare.

AirPods with Wireless Charging Case deals

airpods next to iphone

AirPods with Wireless Charging Case (medium, Preferred: Target)

The AirPods with Wireless Charging Case are identical to the 2nd-gen AirPods with Charging Case, except the case can be charged wirelessly as well as via a Lightning cable. That means you can power the case on a wireless charging pad that uses the Qi wireless charging standard. You can read our full AirPods with Wireless Charging Case review here.

Though they’re listed for more, the typical price for the Wireless Charging Case AirPods is $160 across online retailers. During Black Friday and Cyber Monday, we saw them fall as low as $140; it’s unlikely they’ll drop that low again outside of short-lived discounts from one or two retailers.

AirPods Pro deals

Airpods BF

AirPods Pro (medium, Preferred: Amazon)

The AirPods Pro are Apple’s flagship AirPods, and they’re also our pick for the best wireless earbuds for Apple fans. They have a shorter stem than the original AirPods, and they have an in-ear design with tips for three different sizes. If you’ve ever had difficulty keeping Apple’s earbuds in your ear, these are the solution. The wireless charging case is also wider than the standard charging cases.

Despite their smaller size, they come with active noise cancellation, and they sound a little better than the regular AirPods. Battery life with noise cancellation enabled isn’t as long as the regular AirPods, but it’s still pretty good (4.5 hours versus 5 hours). The wireless charging case holds a 24-hour total charge.

The AirPods Pro are also sweat- and water-resistant, whereas the regular AirPods are not. You can read our full AirPods Pro review here.

A pair is listed for $249, but the typical price hovers around $200 across online retailers like Walmart and Costco. We’ve seen them drop lower during Black Friday and Cyber Monday, but if you need a pair now, don’t settle for paying any more than $200.

AirPods Max deals

AirPods Max being worn

Airpods Max (medium, Preferred: Amazon)

If you’re an Apple aficionado looking for the best audio you can find, the AirPods Max are for you. Audio from the AirPods Max is crisp, clear, and open; their noise-cancellation is powerful. They’re surely pricier than other headphones with similar performance from Sony and Bose, but the AirPods Max are a huge listening upgrade from the AirPods and AirPods Pro. You can read our full review of the AirPods Max here.

Since release, the typical price for a pair has dropped to $500, with some colors as low as $490.

Tips for finding the best AirPods deals

Apple products, despite their reputation for never going on sale, see discounts frequently. Unlike most other electronics, AirPods see discounts year-round and, in some rare cases, see better discounts than we see during Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

To make sure you get the best price on Apple AirPods, don’t shop at Apple. Best Buy, Target, and Walmart frequently mark down Apple’s headphones.

Where to find Apple AirPods

AirPods are available in most retailers that sell tech, in addition to the Apple Store. You can find them at Best Buy, Target, Costco, Walmart, and anywhere else you’d see electronics.

Apple’s year-round education pricing includes discounts on Macs and iPad. During its back-to-school promotion, you can get a free pair of AirPods with a Mac or iPad purchase.

6 iPad accessories to help you get the most out of your Apple tablet

Collage of the best iPad accessories, including an Apple pencil, AirPods, Logitech keyboard, and Steel Series Nimbus Controller 4x3

When you buy through our links, Insider may earn an affiliate commission. Learn more.

  • Accessories can help you use your iPad as a sketchbook, laptop, or game console.
  • Our favorite iPad accessories include ESR cases, Logitech keyboards, and Apple’s AirPods Pro.
  • Make sure the accessory is compatible with your specific iPad model before buying.

There’s plenty that your iPad can do right out of the box, but accessories can make your iPad even more useful. That’s especially true if you’re using it for working or playing video games.

Whether you’re using your iPad as a portable work machine, a digital sketch pad, or a secondary gaming device, there’s something in this guide for everyone. All of the products in this guide have been tested by our team of writers.

Apple makes plenty of iPad accessories, but there are also worthwhile options from third parties like Logitech, ESR, and SteelSeries among others. When shopping for iPad accessories, make sure they’re compatible with the specific iPad model you own.

Here are our favorite iPad accessories.

The best iPad case

Pink iPad Case ESR

ESR iPad cases

iPad Cases (button)

There are plenty of iPad cases out there, but ESR’s cases stand out for their variety and affordable prices. Whether you prioritize protection style, or convenience, there’s usually something for everyone in ESR’s lineup.

One of our favorites is the Sentry Magnetic Kickstand Case, which includes raised edges for extra protection and a kickstand that allows for seven viewing angles. The version for the 10.2-inch iPad only costs $21.69 at the time of writing, although the pricing will definitely vary depending on the model. The ESR Ascend Trifold Hard Case for the iPad Pro even has a special flap for protecting your Apple Pencil while you’re charging it.

All told, ESR provides plenty of choice and value to make its cases worth a look.

The best wireless earbuds for iPad

airpods pro

Apple AirPods Pro

AirPods Pro (button)

Apple’s AirPods Pro are pricier than many competitors, but they offer great noise cancellation, crisp sound quality, and seamless pairing with Apple devices. You can expect deeper bass and better noise cancellation than you’d get on cheaper (yet still very good) earbuds like the $120 second-generation Amazon Echo Buds and $150 Beats Studio Buds

The AirPods Pro are close competitors to Sony’s WF-1000XM4 wireless earbuds, but there are a few reasons why AirPods are usually a better choice for Apple device users. Not only do they quickly pair with your iPad or iPhone, but you’ll also get Apple-specific features like the ability for Siri to read reminders, notifications, and text messages.

They also support spatial audio, which provides a surround sound effect when watching supported content in apps like Apple TV Plus, Disney Plus, and HBO Max. That makes them a particularly compelling choice for those who really plan to use their iPad for entertainment first and foremost.

The best iPad stylus

Apple Pencil

Apple Pencil

Pencil (2nd Generation) (button)

If you frequently sketch or jot down notes on your iPad, you’ll have a lot to gain from using the Apple Pencil. Insider Reviews has tested styluses from companies such as Wacom, Adonit, and 53 over the years, and none of them feel quite as fluid and accurate as the Apple Pencil.

There’s essentially no lag, and the tip is pressure sensitive in the same way as a regular pencil. That means you can press down harder to make darker markings, or sketch lightly for a softer effect.

Which one you purchase depends on the iPad model you own. The $129 second-generation Apple Pencil comes with a sleeker design and magnetically attaches to your iPad for charging and pairing. It’s compatible with the fourth-generation iPad Pro, 11-inch iPad Pro, and the third-generation and newer models of the 12.9-inch iPad Pro.

The $99 first-generation Apple Pencil, which has a longer design and must be plugged into a Lightning port to charge, works with other iPad models.

The best universal charging cable for iPad

Anker PowerLine II 3-in-1 Cable

Anker PowerLine II 3-in-1 Cable

Powerline II 3-in-1 Cable (button)

The iPad is a great travel companion, especially on long flights. But no one likes carrying around multiple cables for your phone and tablet. That’s where Anker’s PowerLine II 3-in-1 cable comes in handy.

It includes charging tips for USB-C, Lightning, and micro-USB all in one. It’s a particularly good choice for those who have an iPad that charges via USB-C instead of Lightning, that way you don’t have to pack an extra Lightning cable for your iPhone.

It’s not quite as durable or lengthy as some of the other Lightning and charging cables we’ve tested. But its versatility, lifetime warranty, and solid build quality make it the best universal charging cable we’ve tried so far.

The best iPad keyboard

Logitech K380

Logitech K380 Bluetooth Keyboard

K380 Multi-Device Bluetooth Keyboard (button)

If you use your iPad for working and taking notes, a keyboard is a must. We love the Logitech K380 for its responsive and accurate typing experience, sleek design, and ability to remember  up to three device connections at a time.

Best of all: it’s very affordable at just $36.98 at the time of writing. At that price it’s much cheaper than most keyboard cases, making it the perfect companion if you already have a case you enjoy. Plus, it’ll work with any iPad regardless of the model since it’s a standalone Bluetooth keyboard.

Our reviewer Michelle Rae Uy called it “a delight” to type on, even saying that its bounce can rival that of Dell’s flagship laptops. The only downside? It’s not rechargeable and instead requires two AAA alkaline batteries. However, it comes with two batteries out of the box that should last for up to two years.

If you prefer a keyboard case over a standalone Bluetooth keyboard, we recommend the Logitech Combo Touch

The best game controller for iPad

SteelSeries Nimbus+ Bluetooth

SteelSeries Nimbus+

Nimbus+ Gaming Controller (button)

The SteelSeries Nimbus+ is the best controller you can buy if you love playing games on your iPad.

For one, it’s versatile enough to be used as a standalone controller or with an iPhone mount to turn your phone into a handheld console. It also borrows some design cues from Microsoft and Sony, making it feel familiar to most gamers. You’ll also get four months of Apple Arcade for free when purchasing the controller, and the battery lasts for up to 50 hours.

However, it uses a Lightning port for charging, so you’ll have to keep your iPhone’s power cord handy if you own an iPad Pro or fourth-generation iPad Air. Although our reviewer Nathaniel Mott says it offers the best experience across Apple devices, there are some minor downsides to consider. The buttons are a bit slick, the visual battery indicator makes the controller look less attractive, and the iPhone mount can be a bit finicky. All that said, this remains the best iPhone game controller to date.

Don’t use hydrogen peroxide or bleach to clean your Apple products

someone cleaning an iPhone
Don’t use hydrogen peroxide or bleach to clean Apple products.

  • Apple warned users not to use harsh cleaners like bleach or hydrogen peroxide to clean its products.
  • Instead, use Clorox wipes or a 75% ethyl alcohol wipe.
  • Avoid getting moisture inside your product while cleaning.
  • See more stories on Insider’s business page.

Phones, laptops and iPads tend to see a lot of grime in their lifetime, from fingerprint smudges to germs to spilled coffee. But you shouldn’t use bleach or hydrogen peroxide to clean your Apple products, according to an update in Apple’s guidelines reported on by MacRumors.

This rule applies to Apple devices including Macs, iPhones, and iPods.

Instead, Apple users should use Clorox wipes, 70% isopropyl alcohol wipes, or 75% ethyl alcohol wipes and avoid scrubbing their devices too hard or getting moisture in openings.

The guidelines also state to use soft cloths and avoid abrasive fabrics like paper towels to clean your products. Users should also avoid submerging their Apple products in liquid disinfectant or spraying disinfectant directly on the product.

You can read Apple’s complete guidelines for caring for your devices here.

The AirPods with Wireless Charging Case are identical to the 2nd-gen AirPods with Charging Case, except the charging case can be charged wirelessly as well as via a Lightning cable. That means you can charge the wireless charging case on a wireless charging pad that uses the Qi wireless charging standard. Thankfully, that means you can charge the AirPods’ wireless charging case on pretty much any wireless charging pad, including the pad you already use for your iPhone, if you already use one. You can read the full AirPods with Wireless Charging Case review here.

Though they’re listed for more, the typical price for the Wireless Charging Case AirPods is considerably lower than suggested, as is the trend with Apple gear. Typical price is more commonly $160 across online retailers. During Black Friday and Cyber Monday, we saw them fall as low as $140; it’s unlikely they’ll drop that low again outside of short-lived discounts from one or two retailers. Below, we’ve listed the best deals available now.

AirPods Pro deals

AirPods Pro (Refurbished) (medium, Preferred: Best Buy)AirPods Pro (medium, Preferred: Amazon)

The AirPods Pro are Apple’s highest-end AirPods, and they’re also our pick for the best wireless earbuds for Apple fans. They have a shorter stem than the original AirPods design, and they have an in-ear design that fits more securely in more ears using tips of three different sizes – if you’ve ever had difficulty keeping Apple’s earbuds in your ear, these are the solution. The wireless charging case is also wider than the non-pro charging cases.

Despite their smaller size, they come with active noise cancellation, and they sound a little better than the regular non-pro AirPods. Battery life with noise cancellation enabled isn’t as long as the regular AirPods, but it’s still pretty good (4.5 hours versus 5 hours). If the AirPods Pro run out of battery, a quick 15-minute charge in the case gives you an extra three hours of listening time. The AirPods Pro are also sweat and water-resistant, whereas the regular non-pro AirPods are not. You can read the full AirPods Pro review here.

A pair is listed for $249, but typical price more commonly hovers around $220 across online retailers like Walmart and Costco. We’ve seen them drop lower during Black Friday and Cyber Monday, but if you need a pair now, don’t settle for paying any more than $220. Below, we’ve listed the best deals available now.

AirPods Max deals

AirPods Max being worn

Airpods Max (medium, Preferred: Amazon)

If you’re an Apple aficionado looking for the best audio you can find, the AirPods Max are for you. Audio from the AirPods Max is crisp, clear, and open; their noise-cancellation is powerful. They’re surely pricier than other headphones with similar performance from Sony and Bose, but the AirPods Max are a huge listening upgrade from the AirPods and AirPods Pro for iOS users. You can read our full review of the AirPods Max here.

Since they are still fairly new, we haven’t seen any great deals for these headphones. The typical price is still the full $549, but Amazon is offering a small discount on the silver pair.

How to change the name of your AirPods on iPhone, iPad, or Mac

Apple AirPods and charging case
Changing the name of your AirPods only takes a second on an iPhone, iPad, or Mac.

With so many Bluetooth-enabled devices to connect to – from your car’s audio to your noise-cancelling headphones to your living room speaker – it can be hard to keep track of what’s what.

Table of Contents: Masthead Sticky

Amazon Prime Day is one of the best times of the year to shop for electronics, especially Apple’s AirPods. Last year, we saw significant discounts on all models and the average prices on these wireless in-ear headphones have continued to drop throughout 2021.

All models offer the ability to easily pair with Apple devices, good sound, and instant Siri access, making them a popular choice for those in need of hassle-free wireless earbuds. Prime Day 2021 is also the first major shopping event since Apple released its $549 AirPods Max over-ear headphones. The headphones were $50 off last week but are now available for $27 off.

Amazon Prime Day can be pretty hectic, with timed Lightning deals and limited stock. Some deals sell out quickly, so it’s a good idea to jump on something that you’re interested in while you can. For more earbud deals, check out our roundup of all the best Prime Day headphone deals.

The best Amazon Prime Day deals on Apple AirPods right now

Most AirPods go on sale periodically throughout the year, so we recommend jumping on Prime Day deal prices that drop below the usual discounts we see on a regular basis.

The AirPods Pro typically cost around $200, but dropped to an all-time low of $170 during Black Friday. The AirPods Pro are currently $190 during Prime Day, the lowest price we’ve seen since February.

The AirPods with wireless charging case average around $160, though in March they reached an all-time low of $130. Sales in the days before Prime Day saw them drop to $150 before returning to their usual price on June 21.

Wired charging AirPods were marked down to $119 for Prime Day – making them the most affordable AirPods of the bunch, but they’re out of stock as of our last check. They typically run about $130, but the lowest price we’ve seen on wired charging AirPods was $99, during Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

Current Amazon sale prices are a bit better than the typical ones we see, so the below deals are all solid discounts.

Frequently asked questions

When is Amazon Prime Day?

This year, Amazon Prime Day is June 21 to 22. Amazon discounts a vast amount of its products in just about all categories on Prime Day. This tends to include everything from tech gadgets, to books, to home and kitchen, and everything in between.

Amazon Prime Day sales are exclusive to Prime members. A Prime membership costs $119 per year or $13 a month and comes with a bunch of perks like free two-day shipping and access to Amazon Prime Video and Prime Music.

Which are better, the regular AirPods or AirPods Pro?

The AirPods Pro are our pick as the best AirPods overall. They’re more expensive than the standard AirPods, but offer benefits like better sound quality, fantastic noise cancellation, an adjustable fit, and water resistance for workout aficionados. They’re a great pick for iPhone owners looking for a pair of premium wireless earbuds for exercising or drowning out distractions while working or watching movies.

Apple’s standard AirPods lack many of the attributes of the AirPods Pro, including adjustable ear tips, active noise cancellation, and water resistance – but still offer decent sound, while pairing easily with all Apple devices. They’re the right choice for Apple users that want to spend less and really only want a pair of wireless earbuds for casual listening.

Are the AirPods Max worth it?

The AirPods Max are made for those seeking top-notch audio and noise cancellation, but they’re hard to recommend at their full price of $549. It’s true that the AirPods Max offer excellent sound quality and noise cancellation wrapped in a design that’s superior to most competitors.

However, you don’t need to spend that much when Sony’s less expensive WH-1000XM4 also provide a great listening experience and great noise cancellation, minus the convenient AirPods pairing features and more elegant design. The AirPods Max also lack certain features we would have liked to see for the price, like a charging case and other input options for audio connections.
